Inside the barn studio

The studio is a working barn, and it still behaves like one. Light comes in sideways in the morning and floods straight through the middle of the day, which is why the long table sits where it does.

There is a shelf of shared materials that anyone in a session can dig through — paper, charcoal, half-used tubes, jars of brushes worn down to good shapes. Nothing in here is too precious to use.

On retreat days the doors stay open from first light to evening. People wander out to the meadow with a sketchbook and wander back in when it gets cold. It is an unhurried way to work, and it turns out most of us need more of that than we think.
