A Break in the Rain

The rain took a break today, and while it lasted the whole sky opened up.

Low golden light came through the clouds and laid itself across the pastures, and a great big cloud kept building over the fields like it was gathering itself for the next round.

The goats came down to the fence to see what all the fuss was about, one of them standing up on its back legs to get a better look.

By the end the whole valley was lit — the trees, the barns, the ridges beyond — as if it hadn't been raining all day.
