Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Mav dressed up today, and what a beautiful wood nymph fairy she is.
When I first met Mav that day, she came tearing down the chip path to show me her costume, wings and all — I had to stop and film her.
Lime-green wings on her back, a crown of purple and blue and pink blossoms across her forehead, and a full tulle tutu in lavender and seafoam scattered with little flowers. She stood in the middle of the floor and let me look her over, as if to say: well? Am I not the fairest creature in the house?
Outside on the woodchips she held still for her portrait, head tipped up, looking at me with those big soft eyes while the wings caught the light.
From behind it is all tutu — three layers of tulle with a bright red blossom tucked in among them, and her tail going the whole time.
Then she went off to sniff her way along the yard, fairy wings and all, while the boxes came off the truck behind her.
The mountain dressed up with her. Mount Rainier came out pink in the evening light above the fence line and the turning trees, as if she had saved her own costume for last.
Happy Halloween from the farm.
