A Clay Meditation

Clay mushrooms beside the insides of two coconut shells pressed with ridged clay, sitting on a table with tomatoes, a green squash and a mason jar of iced drink in warm evening light

Tonight's clay meditation revolved around organic mushroom shapes emerging from the clay I squished in my fingers, and clay pressed into two coconut shells, with the hope they pop out without cracking.

No plan, no drawing first — just clay in my hands and letting the shapes come. The mushrooms grew out of whatever my fingers decided to do, caps textured and stems all their own.

Then I pressed clay into two coconut shells, smooth against the inside, and set them aside to firm up. Now it's just the hoping part: that they pop out whole, without cracking.

That's the honest part of clay — you shape it, you wait, and you hope it lets go gently when the time comes.
