An Art Session with Willa

A smiling woman in sunglasses and a rainbow knit wrap taking a selfie beside a young girl in a pink t-shirt, their raw clay pieces laid out on towels across a granite counter

This art session with Willa included building a French bell water jar, making clay figurines, and learning to string a guitar and sing.

We started with the clay — cutting a slab off the block with the wire cutter, then rolling it out flat and even. From there the bell jar took its shape, and the figurines came next: a cat sitting up straight, and a four-legged friend pressed out by hand.

Then it was the guitar’s turn. Willa learned how to string it up, and once the strings were on, the singing started. The pasture made a good stage for it.

A full day of making, and everything she touched came out looking like it belonged to her.

And a straw hat, and a pup who wanted in.

And then the singing — with guitar accompaniment.
