Fall Colors, the Moon, the Hot Air Balloon

Snow-covered Mount Rainier rising behind the farm, framed by fences, fields and autumn trees glowing golden in low light around the farmhouse

Fall colors, the moon, the hot air balloon — and all of it two days before the Full Moon.

The mountain came out over the farm with the trees gone golden and amber on every side, the light doing that low, warm thing it only does this time of year.

Then the balloon drifted over, slow and bright against the blue, while the animals underneath went about their business like nothing was happening at all.

By the end the moon was already up between the pines, pale in the daytime sky, two days early and perfectly content to wait.
