First Virtual Band Practice

Yesterday we tested our first band practice virtually over Zoom. The tablet sat on the easel by the window, the stylus laid to one side, and the room came in whole — Crystal on the left, Zach with the guitar on the right, our own little thumbnail up top.

There is a delay. You hear a note a beat after it's played, so nobody pretends to be tight. You learn to play through the gap anyway, and you end up listening harder than you would in the same room.

But it feels great being involved when I'm not able to be there in person. The practice happens, the songs get added to, and I'm in it from here — waiting room, join button and all.
