Opened the Kiln

Opened the kiln today, and the glazed piece turned out great!

Gloved hand on the handle, lid up, and there it is: the platter glossy and white, with three golden citrus shapes down one side, stamped from the real thing. It sat right there on the shelf among the bare clay pieces still waiting their turn.

Now it's time to glaze the rest. Brushes out, buckets stirred — the whole shelf of work goes back under the glaze before the next firing.

Come glaze with us — a session, a camp, or an afternoon of your own. There's clay to spare.

The freshly glazed platter on the kiln shelf, its cream glaze glossy and three golden citrus shapes stamped from real citrus bright down one side, unglazed clay sculptures waiting around it
Straight out of the kiln — three golden citrus shapes, stamped from the real thing.
Freshly bisque-fired clay pieces spread across a white towel on the studio table — terracotta bowls with impressed shells and combed spirals, a tower of textured mushroom caps, a small white figure, ring stilts and pale pinch pots with pressed designs
My pieces, out to dry — every one of them fired and ready for glaze.
A large hand-built terracotta jar with a rough round lid resting askew over the opening, and three flat clay cutouts in front — a seated cat, a trotting horse, and another seated cat
Willa's jar with its lid set crooked, and the two cats and horse keeping watch.
