Rainy Fall Days

An estate driveway blanketed with wet golden and red maple leaves, an open farm gate at the right, and dark rain clouds over the pasture valley beyond

My favorite thing is to be outside on these rainy fall days. The leaves come down, the drive goes slick and shiny, and there is always something out there that needs me.

Then I come in and warm up with hot coffee as we run the estate — the gate, the deliveries, the messages, the whole list. And none of it gets done without the help of all my farm volunteers.

Rain doesn't stop the day here. It just changes the light, and gives me an excuse for the second cup.

The gate, the signs and the old tractor hood where deliveries get left — one stop on the round.
