Three Greenhouses to Expand the Season

Farm hoop houses covered in translucent plastic at golden hour, sun flaring through the film with a blue canopy tent beside them

Just ordered three greenhouses to expand our growing season.

Each one is 12x20 — a good way to begin small and expand as we learn.

Hoop houses hold the warmth in and the frost out, so the season stretches longer on both ends of the year — more time to plant, more time to harvest.

A few looks at how they go together: the frame that carries the cover, the beds inside, and the door end rolled back for air.

A small hoop house covered in translucent plastic sitting over a raised bed against a soft twilight sky with distant trees
Plastic pulled tight along the base, with the evening light behind it.
Inside a hoop house, a path of rectangular pavers bordered by gravel runs between raised beds of soil, leafy greens, herbs and small purple and yellow pansies
Inside, a paver path runs between the beds — greens, herbs, and a few pansies already planted.

The ribs and cross-straps that hold the cover up against the sky.
The entrance end of a hoop house with the translucent door panel rolled back and clipped to a support pole, bare soil inside, and black woven weed barrier marking the ground in front
The door end rolled back and clipped up for air, with the ground prepped under the weed barrier.
